Waiting on Wednesday: Vol. 29
Of course I’m chomping at the bit for TOWER OF THORNS! I mean, it is the sequel to one of my favourite books of 2014.
Of course I’m chomping at the bit for TOWER OF THORNS! I mean, it is the sequel to one of my favourite books of 2014.
January was an amazing month full of great books and great fun! Unfortunately, I hit a bit of a snag with writing reviews for the blog.
This week’s trope is LAW ENFORCEMENT:
Seems odd to think that in fantasy cities in which entire economies revolve around crime there is room for the men in blue (or crimson, or whatever). But the law does the best it can, even when faced with magic, mystical creatures, or rogue deities.
Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout (A Wicked Saga #1) Genre: Paranormal Romance, New Adult Publisher: Self Published Source: Purchased Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans. Let’s […]
This week’s trope is PETS:
Everybody needs somebody to love. And the best companionship doesn’t always come from the same sentient group, does it? Be it furry or scaled, large or small, sometimes an animal companion is the best thing a person can have. Thank you to Nathan’s wife for this week’s topic!
How amazing does Marjorie M. Liu’s graphic novel MONSTRESS sound? A comic featuring women of all ages, featuring a woman of colour on the cover, and written by two ladies of colour. Sign me the hell up.
The lovely and hilarious Lynn from Lynn’s Books tagged me to participate in this tag so we can learn more about each other. And why not? Because I know y’all […]
This week’s trope is MESSIAHS:
If the world needs saving who are you going to call? Perhaps there is someone out there destined to save everything? It sounds like you need…a Messiah. (Thanks Rabindranauth for the topic).
Check out that cover! Taran Matharu’s debut novel THE NOVICE looks vaguely Garth Nix-y, and y’all better believe I love his books.

This week’s trope is SNARKY SIDEKICKS:
Why is everyone so serious all the time? Perhaps they need a friend that is there with a quick bit of wit to liven the day; even if the day is looking to quickly turn to blood. (Not actually found in the Tough Guide)
MS. MARVEL, VOL. 1: NO NORMAL was one of the most highly anticipated graphic novels of 2014, and for once the hype was actually deserved.
The Good, The Bad, and The Undead by Kim Harrison (The Hollows #2) Genre: UF Publisher: Harper Voyager on January 25, 2005 Source: Bought Rachel Morgan, sexy witch, independent bounty […]
This week’s trope is HOLIDAYS:
Never too late to celebrate … holidays! Because fantasy festivals and feasts are always fun. Thanks to Wendy from Bibliosanctum for the suggestion! And feel free to blame her if this proves to be as hard as it sounds.
The first half of December was a little because I spent them in a mad craze of paper writing and stressing about finals. Would not recommend. But the holidays were lovely and very relaxing!
The end of 2014 is upon us, and that means that it’s time to sound off about our favourite reads of the year!

This week’s trope is TRAVELLING FOLK:
TRAVELLING FOLK are quite common. They are of two kinds: Land travellers and River travellers. These people are merry, colourfully dressed, dishonest, and knowledgeable…they will cheat you, cure your wounds, and hustle you off to the cart of their oldest lady who will tell you something about the future you need to know.
THE GREAT LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA HAS SURVIVED THE TEST OF TIME. Do I need to say more? What more could you possibly need to understand why I’m desperate to get my hands on this book?
Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol Genre: YA, Fantasy Publisher: First Second on June 7, 2011 Source: Borrowed Anya could really use a friend. But her new BFF isn’t kidding about […]
This week’s trope is DRUGS
DRUGS- Driver of all the underground economies. At times glorified, at times responsible for all the world’s evil, but just as common in Fantasyland as our own.
