Tough Traveling: High Priest
This week’s trope is HIGH PRIEST:
HIGH PRIEST is nearly always evil, either on his own account or on behalf of the dark lord.

Let me just reiterate that for you: royalty…witches…kingdom in chaos…captain of the royal guard…temptation of power. I need THE SHATTERED COURT by M.J. Scott!
Bye, bye November! You were exceptional, especially when it came to my reading selections.
THESE BROKEN STARS by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner is everything I normally love about YA romance: dual POVs with distinct narrative voices, nuanced characters, and my beloved friends-to-lovers trope. If I were to review the first 60% of the book, I would give it 4 stars and call it a day…but sadly I thought the last half of the book was a hot mess.
This week’s trope is BUGS:
BUGS are not in the Tough Guide but it should be. Let’s all find anything creepy or crawly, big or small, six legs, eight legs, or more. Bugs, bugs, bugs.
I feel like I’ve been waiting for RAT QUEENS, VOL. 2: THE FAR REACHING TENTACLES OF N’RYGOTH for ages, but in reality it’s only been a couple months.
There are few authors out there that I know I can turn to when I need a great book – wife and husband team Ilona Andrews is one of them. And with BURN FOR ME, the first title in their new Hidden Legacy series, they do not disappoint.
This week’s trope is MISSING HEIRS:
MISSING HEIRS occur with great frequency. At any given time, half the countries in Fantasyland will have mislaid their crown princess/prince.
Check it out: THE WITCHES OF ECHO PARK by Amber Benson! The name Amber Benson may sound familiar – she played Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In this long overdue edition of Graphic Novels, Tough Chicks I’m discussing the portrayal of women, motherhood, and girl power in Saga Vol. 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.
Although though I’ve only read about two instalments in the October Daye series so far, I already know that I’m in it for the long haul…even though A LOCAL HABITATION didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
This week’s trope is NAMED WEAPONS:
Surprise! This is not from the Tough Guide but fits the spirit of it well. So let us say for this topic the weapon either needs to be A. Named, B. Famous, or C. Sentient.
Cherie Priest’s I AM PRINCESS X sounds seriously cool – experimental and fun.
Anyone who regularly reads my blog is probably aware of my undying love for Kelley Armstrong, and it all began with her Women of the Otherworld series, so imagine my glee at receiving a copy of OTHERWORLD NIGHTS!
This week’s trope is NOVICES:
Novice is a term in frequent use. There are not only Novice Priests and Priestesses and nuns: you will also encounter novice healers and bards, and sometimes also novice mages…Novices are always young, frequently skinny and undernourished, and clad in robes.
Check out the newly released cover for A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES! Oh, Sarah J. Maas. The cover gods have been good to you.
I feel like the term “monthly recap” is pretty self-explanatory, but just in case here’s my spiel! I’ll be recapping what I’ve read for the month and what reviews I’ve […]

This week’s trope is MONSTERS:
MONSTERS are likely to lie in waste areas, caves, and old ruined cities. You can usually detect their presence by smell.
