Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The weekly event is meant to showcase eagerly anticipated upcoming releases…and to spread the word! This week I’m excited about:
Prudence by Gail Carriger (The Custard Protocol #1)
Anticipated Publication Date: March 17th, 2015
From New York Times bestselling author Gail Carriger comes a new novel in the world of the Parasol Protectorate starring Prudence, the daughter of Alexia Tarabotti.
When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama (Rue to her friends) is given an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female would under similar circumstances – names it the Spotted Crumpet and floats to India in pursuit of the perfect cup of tea. But India has more than just tea on offer. Rue stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier’s wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves. Faced with a dire crisis and an embarrassing lack of bloomers, what else is a young lady of good breeding to do but turn metanatural and find out everyone’s secrets, even thousand-year-old fuzzy ones?
With PRUDENCE, Gail Carriger jumps back into the world of adult steampunk. AND I AM SO PUMPED IT! It’s one of my most anticipated books of 2015 and I’ve even pre-ordered it, which is very unusual for me. But returning to the world of the Parasol Protectorate is a no-brainer. If you’ve read Soulless, the first book set in that universe, you’ll understand why. Rich steampunk world building, shenanigans, capers, hilarity, and Scottish werewolves are a Carriger staple and she does them all beautifully. And how awesome is that cover? It’s just so…steampunk. I mean, the dirigible, the clockwork doodads surrounding the title, and the cover model’s wardrobe are perfect. How much fun would it be to cosplay as Prudence?!
I’ve had some difficulty trying to suss out whether Prudence will be an adult or a YA novel, but since it’s published by Orbit I feel fairly confident stating that it’s going to be adult. If you’ve always wondered what the fuss was about with Soulless but you couldn’t be bothered to jump into a four book series (your loss!) then Prudence will be the perfect jumping off point for you.
