Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The weekly event is meant to showcase eagerly anticipated upcoming releases…and to spread the word! This week I’m excited about:
Title: Hero (Woodcutter Sisters #2)
Author: Alethea Kontis
Publisher: Harcourt Books
Release Date: October 1st, 2013
Rough and tumble Saturday Woodcutter thinks she’s the only one of her sisters without any magic—until the day she accidentally conjures an ocean in the backyard. With her sword in tow, Saturday sets sail on a pirate ship, only to find herself kidnapped and whisked off to the top of the world. Is Saturday powerful enough to kill the mountain witch who holds her captive and save the world from sure destruction? And, as she wonders grumpily, “Did romance have to be part of the adventure?” As in Enchanted, readers will revel in the fragments of fairy tales that embellish this action-packed story of adventure and, yes, romance.
This is the second installment in a funny and fresh high fantasy series about seven sisters. Each book will be about a different sister, so they don’t necessarily need to be read in sequence – although I did love Enchanted, the first book in the Woodcutter Sisters series! I actually heard about this series through Tamora Pierce’s Goodreads page (she wrote the “Alanna” books aka The Song of the Lioness quartet, among others); when it comes to fantasy about empowered women, Ms. Pierce’s word is law!
