Kristin Cashore’s Graceling Realm series is often hailed as the one of the crowning jewels of YA fantasy. BITTERBLUE, the final book in the trilogy, is complex, thought-provoking, and beautifully written. A must-read for YA fantasy fans.
Rae Carson’s WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER is a compelling and beautifully written YA historical fantasy that transports readers into the time of the U.S. gold rush. Carson impresses with a heroine to root for and a diverse cast of characters.
When it comes to YA fantasy, there’s nothing I like more than the ‘trifecta.’ Give me badass ladies kicking ass, using magic, and making out and I will be one happy reader. So imagine my delight when Kelley Armstrong’s EMPIRE OF NIGHT gave me all three!
THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST is a beautifully written standalone novel that showcases why Holly Black is considered the queen of YA faerie tales. Encompassing themes of family, love, and being true to yourself, this one is YA at its best.
If you’re big into webcomics, you’ve probably heard of NIMONA. Noelle Stevenson’s witty, off-beat and somewhat dark webcomic quickly developed a cult following, catching the attention of major publishing houses. Thus, the graphic novel version of NIMONA was born.
THE EXILED QUEEN begins right where the series left off, with our narrators Raisa and Han on the run. Not together, of course…but since apparently all roads lead to Oden’s Ford it’s only a matter of time until they’re face-to-face once more.

MS. MARVEL, VOL. 1: NO NORMAL was one of the most highly anticipated graphic novels of 2014, and for once the hype was actually deserved.
THESE BROKEN STARS by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner is everything I normally love about YA romance: dual POVs with distinct narrative voices, nuanced characters, and my beloved friends-to-lovers trope. If I were to review the first 60% of the book, I would give it 4 stars and call it a day…but sadly I thought the last half of the book was a hot mess.
