Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The weekly event is meant to showcase eagerly anticipated upcoming releases…and to spread the word! This week I’m excited about:

Like A River Glorious by Rae CarsonLike a River Glorious by Rae Carson (The Gold Seer Trilogy #2)

Genre: YA Fantasy, Historical Fantasy

Publisher: Greenwillow Books

Anticipated Release Date: September 27, 2016

Spoilers for Book 1

After a harrowing journey across the country, Leah Westfall and her friends have finally arrived in California and are ready to make their fortunes in the Gold Rush. Lee has a special advantage over the other new arrivals in California—she has the ability to sense gold, a secret known only by her handsome best friend Jefferson and her murdering uncle Hiram.
Lee and her friends have the chance to be the most prosperous settlers in California, but Hiram hasn’t given up trying to control Lee and her power. Sabotage and kidnapping are the least of what he’ll do to make sure Lee is his own. His mine is the deepest and darkest in the territory, and there Lee learns the full extent of her magical gift, the worst of her uncle, and the true strength of her friendships. To save everyone, she vows to destroy her uncle and the empire he is building—even at the cost of her own freedom.

I absolutely adored WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER when I read it this Fall, and somehow I missed the news that the cover had been released for the second book. Shame on me! What a glorious (GLORIOUS!) cover it is, too. I really want to buy these books so I can have them in my collection, but I always fear the dreaded “third book cover change” in YA trilogies, so I may need to hold off on a physical copy.

But one way or another, I am gonna get ahold of LIKE A RIVER GLORIOUS the second that it comes out. *grabby hands*

How gorgeous is that cover artwork? Have you read WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER? What books are you waiting on this week? Sound off in the comments!

  1. This is a fantastic series, and I can’t wait to read this too! And the blue cover is stunning, right?

    1. I really need to read Carson’s other YA trilogy based on how much I’m loving her current work. She’s been blessed by the cover gods!

Ahh, I saw this on a recent WoW – either Tammy or Mogsy – I recognise the great cover and I haven’t picked up this series so Ive even made a note of it – especially as you loved the first!
    Lynn 😀

    1. Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of people getting hyped for this one including both Mogsy and Tammy! Haha aww, I hope you love Walk on Earth a Stranger. When you’re in the mood for an atmospheric historical fantasy (light on the fantasy) this one’s perfect!

  2. When I first saw this cover, my jaw dropped. I couldn’t imagine anything could beat the beauty of the first cover, but clearly I was wrong.

And @Lynn Williams, it was both me and Tammy, lol!

    1. Right? Mine too! All of Rae Cartson’s covers have been gorgeous. Her previous YA trilogy is beautiful as well. 🙂

  3. That is a gorgeous cover. How did I miss the first book, though? *bustles off to look it up*

    1. Ahhh Lark, I think you’d really like this series! I mean, historical fantasy is pretty awesome. Definitely check it out!

  4. This series sounds so…cool really 😀

    1. It really is. Such an original concept, which is saying a lot at this point!

  5. That typography is pretty great! I always end up waiting on books way too far in advance, and then I forget about which ones I’m waiting on and inevitably remember riiiight after they’ve been released. I really need to work on my anticipation game.

    1. I feel like designing new fonts for book covers would be the coolest job! Staying on top of upcoming releases is something that I can only do with the help of Goodreads, haha. I keep an “anticipate releases” shelf!

  6. I love this book cover! It’s just as good as the first one and it makes me feel bad the next book is getting released when I’ve not read the first! Seriously, why do I have so many books I want to read and haven’t gotten around to buying? I may wait for the third book to get released and then start investing. I still need to read Carson’s other series, I don’t know why I keep putting off reading it.

    1. Right? I’m just hoping that the third and final book in the trilogy has matching cover art…I’m paranoid because I’ve been burned by beautiful covers before (cover changes…why??). There are just so many books to buy and read – I just wish that I were better at actually reading the books I buy, haha!

      1. Fingers crossed they’ll be sensible and keep the covers because this series has some very pretty book covers. I feel you on the too many books to buy and read issue, buying it doesn’t even guarantee me getting around to reading. Maybe I should start buying books only as and when I need them, but that sounds way too sensible and practical. One day I may win the lottery and be able to give up working and move on to actually reading all day every day and catch up.
