20949471Title: The Witches of Echo Park (The Witches of Echo Park #1)

Author: Amber Benson

Publisher: Ace Trade

Anticipated Publication Date: January 6, 2015

From beloved author, director, and actress, Amber Benson…

Unbeknownst to most of humankind, a powerful network of witches thrives within the shadows of society, using their magic to keep the world in balance. But they are being eliminated—and we will all pay if their power falls…

When Elyse MacAllister’s great-aunt Eleanora, the woman who raised her, becomes deathly ill, Lyse puts her comfortable life in Georgia on hold to rush back to Los Angeles. And once she returns to Echo Park, Lyse discovers her great-aunt has been keeping secrets—extraordinary secrets—from her.

Not only is Lyse heir to Eleanora’s Victorian estate; she is also expected to take her great-aunt’s place in the Echo Park coven of witches. But to accept her destiny means to place herself in deadly peril—for the world of magic is under siege, and the battle the witches now fight may be their last…

Check it out: THE WITCHES OF ECHO PARK by Amber Benson! The name Amber Benson may sound familiar – she played Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even though I’m a massive fangirl of the show, I’ve never read any of Benson’s other books. But give me witches and a contemporary setting and I am all over that like peanut butter on jelly!  I can’t recall ever having read a UF novel set in L.A. either, so I’m pretty excited about that.

Now is it just me, or does this have a distinctly Charmed vibe going on? You know, that tv show about the witch sisters who live in an old Victorian in San Francisco? With the family cat? Please tell me I wasn’t the only one who watched that show. Anyway, I loved that show and I’m hoping that I’ll love The Witches of Echo Park.

I loved Charmed too! And I’m a huge Buffy fan although I haven’t read any of Amber’s books yet. This sounds like a great one to start with!

    1. Yay! The ’90s and early 2000s were a great era for female-led UF television. Something made me think that you’re a Buffy fan…can’t fathom what that could be… 😉 I think The Witches of Echo Park looks pretty promising, I’ll let you know how it goes!

  1. I never watched Charmed. Or Buffy. Wait, did we really not know Tammy is a huge Buffy fan? I thought that was kinda implied.

    1. You’re missing out! And I’m pretty sure it’s explicit, not just implied. 😉

  2. I’ve never watched Buffy though I’ve watched plenty of Charmed in highschool. I’m looking forward to this one too!!!

    1. Charmed is such an underrated show!! You should watch Buffy – you’d love it Tabitha, especially seasons one and two. Fingers crossed that The Witches of Echo Park is as awesome as Charmed!

  3. Oh, I was contacted by the publisher about this book recently. It sounds pretty good, I am looking forward to this as well!

    1. Ohh fancy! 😉 Can’t wait to hear what you think of this one, Mogsy! Hopefully it’s good. I’m pretty excited about it but I’m trying not to get my hopes too high since I’m not sure what Benson’s writing is like.

  4. Amber Benson as in Tara from Buffy? Ohhhhhhhhh exciting. She always seemed so witty in interviews (yes am I am rabid btvs fangirl) — really curious to see if that comes through in her books too.

Thank you for highlighting this! 😀

    1. YES!!! I think she’s hilarious – I watch those interviews too, haha. I have high hopes for this one!

  5. Buffy and Charmed references/vibes? I’m all for in for that shit.

    1. Whoop whoop! Witches, female empowerment, and the awesomeness that was 90s-early 2000s television, amirite?

      1. You are indeed! And this was like a month late, lmao

I’m so excited for this one! The cover is the perfect blend of cute and pretty and I have so much faith in Benson writing about witches, haha. Mostly I just need to work through my feelings about Tara still clearly D:

    1. Whoaaaa good point! I never even thought about the fact that Tara’s a witch LOL. Yeah, I’m still not over it…but I have a feeling The Witches of Echo Park is going to be a little lighter in tone. 😉
