After two months of no recaps (I’m a bad blogger!), I’m bringing them back!
I feel like the term “monthly recap” is pretty self-explanatory, but just in case here’s my spiel! I’ll be recapping what I’ve read for the month and what reviews I’ve written, along with what I’m planning to read for next month. What’s been happening in my personal life may also be making an appearance from time to time (this of course depends on whether anything interesting happens!).

As you can probably see, April was a S-L-O-W reading month for me! Chalk it up to the last few weeks of my degree or the vicious reading slump that set in around mid-month, but either way I did not meet my reading goals. The good news is that I’m finally on top of my review pile: I’ve slowly been working my way back through the books I’ve read in 2015 because my goal for the year was to review every book I read for fun. Success is imminent!

Four reviews is pretty typical for me month to month. Lately I’d say that’s about as good as it’s gonna get, since I want to stock-pile reviews for what is undoubtedly going to be a very busy year. More about that later.
Reading & Blogging Updates:
I had been doing so well on my book buying challenge, and then I indulged in a little retail therapy and well…suffice it to say that I’ve fallen off the wagon. And maybe that’s okay? I figure if I’m working and I am fortunate enough to have the extra cash, why not spend it on books? I indulged and bought a slew of new books, including the latest Kelley Armstrong and Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman.
Anyone who regularly reads this blog knows of my love for Kelley Armstrong, and might be surprised that I haven’t EMPIRE OF NIGHT yet. But I’m buddy-reading this one with one of my best friends (another Kelley Armstrong fangirl) in May and I could not be more excited. Of course, I also desperately want to read Shadow Scale so I’m hoping to make that a reality in May as well. But I haven’t been doing too much reading, instead focusing on catching up with friends before I leave town. This photo may give you an idea of what I’ve been doing instead of reading. School and Life Updates:
So much has happened since my last update, it’s insane. Presented at my first ever academic conference and killed it (if I do say so myself). Handed in my thesis projects for both majors: one was a paper on working class masculinity during the Great Depression and the other was my Chinese Canadian and Aboriginal literatures project. Finished my last classes and assignments of undergrad. Accepted an offer to grad school.
That’s right people. ACCEPTED AN OFFER TO GRAD SCHOOL. I’ll be pursuing a Master’s of Library and Information Science starting in September, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve wanted to be a librarian for more than a decade now, so this is like a “major life dreams” moment. For a second there I was tempted by an offer to do an MA in English but I couldn’t resist the siren song of librarianship.
When this post goes live, I will be in the process of moving all my worldly possessions across the province to my new apartment! Gotta move for grad school and my lease was up anyway, so the stars kind of aligned on that one.
